Description

This canyon is about as far out from the resort as most are willing to travel, but No Name Canyon is well worth the hike.

Like Rock Springs, and Pinedale Canyon, No Name Canyon is full of benches and short pitches.

However the terrain in this canyon is all bigger in scale and more consequential than those further north.

The best skiing is along the north facing wall of the canyon, including the dramatic couloir, “The Womb”.

You will find steep tree skiing, long chutes, and massive pillow zones along this north facing wall.

To access No Name Canyon, use the Green River and Four Pines Bootpacks, and head towards Pinedale Canyon.

Instead of dropping into Pinedale, head up and over the short ridge to the south, and descend into the basin below.

From the basin, either drop in immediately, or head south up to the next ridgeline by bootpacking or skinning.

Make sure to stay on the bench when heading this way.

There are several closeout cliffs below the bench and no way through except for directly below the lowest point in the basin.

Gain the ridge top, and prepare to descend.

Make your way down the ridge on the south side, you’ll have to ride through two short chutes, and then contour back to the saddle in the ridge.

From here, several steep chutes make their way through trees and cliffs.

The most committing being “The Womb”, which is skier’s right of the knob, and the easier options being to the skier’s left.

For the easiest way down, continue east along the ridge until an east facing bowl appears with sparse trees.

This bowl leads into a chute, which will dump you into the canyon bottom.

You can also continue along the ridge and descend steep trees.

Begin with any of these straightforward options and be on the lookout for all the secrets No Name Canyon has to offer.

Begin traversing back to the resort from the basin in the bottom of the canyon around 7,800’, keeping as much height as possible.
