Description

On the far lookers’ right side of Ford Wall are two really nice couloirs right next to each other.

Also both first skied by Andrew Maclean Brad Barlage in 2002, they dubbed these lines Pinto and Escort in keeping with the Ford theme.

Escort is the better of these two lines and is the last couloir lookers’ right side of the entire stretch of Ford Wall.

It also tops out on a nice little col high on the wall.

Although this line doesn’t quite have the same grandiose allure as some of its neighboring lines, it is still almost 700 meters vertical! The sense of scale in Baffin can be deceiving, and lines are often bigger than they first appear.

The Escort couloir is between 30 and 40 degrees the whole way, and steepest at the top.

Depending on conditions, it can be a little bony sometimes since it is more exposed to wind than other lines.

The line faces north-west and gets great light in the late afternoon and evening.

It is also wider than many other Baffin couloirs, and if the snow is good skiers will enjoy arcing out bigger turns in this couloir.

Combining this line with the Pinto couloir to its lookers’ left can make for a nice link up.

The views from the col at the top of the line are simply stunning and offer a great perspective from the edge of Ford Wall and out across to the Walker Arm.

The col also offers a nice flat area from which to leisurely put on your skis and transition.

Escort can be a great warm up for some of the bigger and steeper lines in the area.
