Description

You'll see Big Hourglass as you traverse back from Lower Third Bowl toward Phoenix Bowl along the Third Bowl / Phoenix Exit to East River Express.

You pass above Big Hourglass in Low Exit and along Magic Carpet.

It is a permanently closed area that is rarely used as a freeride venue, only on good snow years, for the Crested Butte Extremes event.

It is full of pillows and mandatory-air exits with close out cliffs in the 25-50 foot range.

The smallest choke through Big Hourglass is only a few feet but surrounded by exposure.
