Phoenix Bowl is a time-honored Crested Butte bowl that skis well in deep powder or the classic Colorado chalk.

Analysing terrain data

Phoenix Bowl is a great run to push oneself deeper into Crested Butte's ungroomed terrain.

You can access Phoenix by taking the Spellbound traverse and the options around Spellbound Bowl or you can traverse into the North Face above Hawks Nest to find the marked Million Dollar Highway traverse.

This entrance passes under Highlife and above the Edge and into the end of Spellbound Bowl.

As you traverse across a big flat bench, you'll double black diamond signs pointing right for Phoenix Bowl and left for Phoenix Steps.

You'll find Phoenix Bowl just through the trees to your right.

The wide open bowl gets a little more technical in the trees on the right, and if you want you can traverse over to the Lower Third Bowl entrance to access behind Steamship Rock, a prominent rock feature on the skier's right hand side of Phoenix Bowl.

The Phoenix Chutes are along the skier's right rope line in the steep trees that some times require mandatory hop turns over a 5 foot rock; as the terrain mellows out through the trees you'll want to head left to keep the cat track hike short.

The main gut of Phoenix Bowl is joined by Phoenix Steps and even Rock-N-Roll Glades on the skier's left as the terrain rolls over onto the Phoenix Last Steep.

There are often moguls through small trees and bushes.

There is one last terrain bench above the cat track below and you'll want to keep your speed from here as you eventually will have to walk for 2-5 minutes along the Third Bowl / Phoenix Exit back to Black Eagle to East River Express.
