Description

All the wilderness and beauty of the Cleuson valley with some added spice! The Phantom couloir is an excellent but steep and exposed couloir.

A definite no fall zone as there is a cliff at the end of the couloir.

From the bottom of the stairs at Mont Fort, cross the rope barrier and traverse left to the ridge.

The access can be on hard snow and is exposed, whilst not difficult, a fall here could be fatal.

Do not cross the ridge but follow it down staying on the south (skiers right) side.

Head right down the south face and just below 3100m traverse left and step climb up around 10-20 metres to the ridge.

Leave the ridge by traversing left and reach the Glacier du Petit Mont-Fort.

Traverse high to the entrance to the couloir.

Ski the couloir in the fall line but stay left as there is a cliff at the bottom of the couloir and you need to exit left.

At the end of the couloir rejoin the Grands Plans descent or continue to the Grand Desert lake and rejoin the end of the main Backside descent.

Take harnesses and crevasse rescue equipment including 2 x 30m ropes in the group just in case.
