Grenzdorf an der SpessartkreuzungThe history of the Flörsbach cultural landscape is characterised by its location on borders - between Mainz and Hanau - and by its location on old trade routes - Birkenhainer Straße and Eselsweg.
For thousands of years people have left their traces here, which are covered by the forest and which can be shown to us again today.
Directions: For the starting point at the fountain on the main road in Flörsbach, there are also parking spaces available.
From here you walk north out of the settlement and into the forest with its rich oak population.
The processing of oak bark, which was used to produce a tanning agent for leather production, was a lucrative business in the 19th century, and as we continue our journey we pass the site of a historic landmark, the "Dreimärker".
Unfortunately it was stolen a few years ago, but could be replaced by a copy.
After walking past the Wiesbütt, you come across the Judenbörnchen, one of many wells used by Jewish cattle traders in the Spessart for their cattle.
The 12 km long hiking trail ends again in Flörsbach.
