Description

Door 4 is the fourth couloir along the ridge between Powder assault and Mt Mckenzie Peak.

There is always a large cornice over the Doors.

Door 4 generally has the smallest cornice and is easiest to access.

Approximately 300m run.

You will want to wait for good snow coverage and stable conditions.

Be sure to have spotters.

With low snow pack there can be rocks in middle of couloir and at the very bottom on skiers right.

You can get a great view of the Doors from the top of Greely bowl. From the top of the Stoke Chair, take the Sub-Peak Boot Pack and then continue on the Mckenzie Peak boot pack. Hike along the ridge past Powder Assault.

Cross the ski area rope and continue to hike towards Mckenzie peak (be cautious of large cornice on the ridge.

Go wide around it).

Entry into Door 4 is right before you begin the final ascent to Mckenzie Peak.

Be cautious of the cornice hazard at entry.

If no one has skied it you may have to cut an entry.

If you are unsure it is the right spot.

Ascend further up towards Mckenzie peak and look back down the couloir.

The couloir starts very steep and narrows half way down.

Sometimes there is a small cliff to navigate in the pinch point of the couloir (depending on snow cover).

Once you reach the end of the funnel point fade to skiers left and towards ski area boundary rope to avoid overhead danger.

Ski fast, don’t stop and to exit ski down to Greely lake and choose your route from there.
