This is a stage of the long-distance hiking trail in the Salzkammergut. It leads from the centre of Mondsee via the mountain peaks Schober and Frauenkopf to Fuschl am See. Luggage transport is offered. Please note that Schober and Frauenkopf are dangerous hikes when it rains or wets (insured steep tracks). Please shorten the tour in case of bad weather and take the direct way to Fuschl am See at the Gasthof Wartenfels.

The tour starts in the town centre of Mondsee and leads in the direction of Black India along the lake shore.

In Birkenalle we cross the main road and turn into Kastanienallee at the cultural property Höribach.

Once at the top, the path leads along little-used roads to a farmstead.

There it goes through a goat gate (please close) for the first time into the forest until we reach another farm in the village Obernberg.

After a long bend on a dirt road we turn left onto a forest road and after a few metres right onto a forest road, which we follow steadily uphill until we reach another forest road.

We cross these and follow the forest path until we reach the Gasthof Wartenfels.

After the refreshment, the ascent leads to the Wartenfels ruin, a former robber baron's castle with an ingenious view of Salzburg.

After a short detour to the ruin the ascent to the Schober summit takes place.

The hiking trail leads in serpentines steadily uphill, garnished with some great views of the Fuschlsee.

Beware of rain or wetness, the path is very demanding.

In the upper part of the route, rope insurances ensure your safety.

Once you arrive at the top, we enjoy the fantastic view of up to seven lakes.

The descent follows to the left of the refuge below the ridge.

Already after a short stretch we have the possibility to climb a few meters up to the next summit cross - the Frauenkopf.

The descent from Frauenkopf also takes place on a stony hiking trail, partly over slippery gravel surfaces - please be careful - until we meet the hiking trail again in the direction of Fuschl am See.

The hiking trail to Fuschl leads through a typical mixed forest until we reach the golf course of the hotel Ebner's Waldhof again free area.

Now it's not far to the Fuschlsee.

Take the opportunity to jump into the crystal-clear water of the Fuschl lake in the Fuschl spa.
