The circular path "Ab durch die Grundmoräne" leads through the area between Oberdorf and Mariahof. The power and influence of the Murg glacier formed gently formed hills, valleys and wetlands, which today characterise the landscape of the pass landscape. Several experience points along the way show the emergence of these landscape forms.

Description

The landscape of the Zirbitzkogel-Grebenzen Nature Park owes its present appearance to the events of the Ice Age.

About 10,500 years ago the last cold period of the ice age ended.

The mighty ice masses of that time formed the Neumarkt pass landscape as well as the high valley of St.

Lambrecht.

However, temperature fluctuations also led to drastic changes in fauna, flora and humans. On the EISZEIT island in Oberdorf (Mariahof) the different themes can be understood and admired.

At EISZEIT INSEL, the most important topics concerning the Ice Age and the landscape-shaping effect of the Murg Glacier in the Nature Park are shown by information boards and some interactive stations.

Thus the EISZEIT island in Oberdorf not only serves as an information platform, but is also the starting point for the two circular hiking trails "Ab durch die Grundmoräne" and "Der Gletscher in der Sackgasse".

In St.

Lambrecht the circular path "Eisstausee St.

Lambrecht" invites you to follow the traces of the ice age.

Information panels were erected to report on glacial processes.

Three circular paths and the experience "Geocache" lead through the ice-age landscape and show the forms of erosion and accumulation as well as the legacies of a mighty 5 km long ice reservoir.

Information on geocaching can be found "http://www.geocache.at/cms/faq/37-allgemein/244-erste-schritte-mit-geocaching" here.
