Description

Directions to Stein a.d.

Enns and via St.

Nikolai to the Archduke Johann Hütte.

From the alpine pastures near the Hansen Alm on the pass road you can already see the beautiful summit of the Hochstubofen, which dominates the end of the valley.

From the car park at the Erzherzog Johann hut, follow the wide Almzufahrtsweg to the Mahdfeldalm to the Wegkreuz, where path no.

926 leads from the Almen.

Turn right and walk along the slope, cross small streams and climb steeply into the karst in many serpentines.

In summer, the purple flowers of the Pannonian Gentian can be found here.

Below the Haseneckscharte, the ascent to the Hochstubofen branches off somewhat surprisingly to the right (trail no.

909 leads straight across the Scharte to the Neunkirchnerhütte) and crosses the slope below the summit to the south-western ridge.

From there without difficulties in a short time to the summit.

In the W the Deneck is exactly opposite, in the O the huge Schoberspitz shows itself and deep down lies the Eselsberggraben with the cosy huts.

Southwest, the Hornfeldspitze and the Aarfeldspitze greet each other - lonely mountains surrounding the wide slopes of the Winkleralpe.

The descent takes place the same way.
