The biggest challenge on this day is the lack of shade, which is particularly troublesome for pilgrims during the summer months and which requires plenty of drinking water.
Among the numerous churches along the way, the daughter church of St.
Mary Magdalene in Wasserhofen deserves a special mention.
Probably originally erected shortly before 1580 as a Protestant sacred building for the neighbouring Wasserhofen Castle, the late Gothic rotunda was modernised in 2001 with murals by Valentin Oman.
