We recommend a journey by car.
The "Gimsenwirt" is located between St.
Gilgen and Fuschl am See.
The "Kleiner Kapelle" (small chapel) is located at the edge of the forest right next to the main road.
There we start our tour and take the "Eibenseesteig".
1h we reach this idyllic mountain lake (Eibensee), which invites you to take a first rest.
Continue along the lake shore until we reach a forest road.
Now we follow the signs to "Almkogel".
After another hour always along the forest road, garnished with some fantastic views to the MondSeeLand but also e.g.
to the Untersberg near the city of Salzburg, we arrive at the summit cross.
During the obligatory entry in the summit book we enjoy the view of the Salzkammergut lakes or observe the ravens, a common bird species in the Alps.
Back it goes approx.
100m the same way, until we reach the forest road again.
Now we turn left and follow the signs to "Obenau - St.
Along the forest road, unusual views of Mondsee, Attersee and Wolfgangsee open up.
At a small alpine meadow we leave the forest road to the right and follow a stony path along a streambed.
After about 100m the path gets better again and we walk steadily downhill until we reach the "Obenau", a hidden meadow valley above St.
After the farm you follow an asphalted road to the "Steinklüften", a spectacular rock formation about 50m hidden in the forest on the right.
From there we follow the signs to "Staffelgraben" and follow the path under the steep rock face of the "Plombergsteins".
At the climbing garden we cross the river and keep left until we reach the asphalted road with a great view of the Wolfgangsee.
We follow the road uphill until we find a sign for "Mühlbachsau" at a crossroads.
We follow this path along the edge of the forest until we reach the main road.
From there it is still about 300m on the main road until we reach our starting point, the parking lot at the "Kleiner Kapelle".
