Description

The dairymen and dairymen in the alpine pasture under the Hochkönig had sung, danced and drunk day and night. One evening an old man dressed in a grey pilgrim's coat appeared on the mountain pasture.

He held a walking stick in his hand, pulled his hat deep into his face and even humbly asked for a shelter.

But the dairymaids laughed in his face and sent him away. The next day a cloud gathered around the mountain - black and mighty.

Even the oldest people couldn't remember ever seeing anything like it.

Lightning flashed around the summit, and the whole Pinzgau trembled with thunderclaps.

A mighty flood poured over the alp and immediately solidified into ice.

But the devils drove screaming through the holes of the rock face. If you doubt the story, look up to the Hochkönig - you can still see the devil's holes today.
