Description

From Baumschlagerreith in Hinterstoder you walk in the direction of Steyrursprung.

Leave the source of the river Steyr on your right and walk through a high forest and along a gravel path.

The forest road is crossed several times and you arrive at the hunting lodge Poppenalm.

Continue first flat to the rearmost corner of the valley and then steeply ascending to a sparsely overgrown forest ridge.

Now it's time to climb up a steep path that is partly secured with wire ropes and surrounded by a romantic rock scenery.

The last 100 meters you walk laboriously over a scree field to the Salzsteigjoch.

South of the Salzsteigjoch, the trail on the Styrian side leads slightly downhill over alpine pastures and through sparse larch forest to the Leisthütte hut.

Now continue in the direction of the Tauplitzalm on trail number 216/218, down to Lake Schwarzensee and then past above Lake Steirersee.

After passing several alpine huts, you finally reach the "Almdorfzentrum" on the Tauplitz, from where you can either take the chairlift or follow the trail markings to the village of Tauplitz.
