Description

From Baumschlagerreith in Hinterstoder you walk in the direction of Steyrursprung.

Leave the source of the river Steyr on your right and walk through a high forest and along a gravel path.

The forest road is crossed several times and you arrive at the hunting lodge Poppenalm.

Continue first flat to the rearmost corner of the valley and then steeply ascending to a sparsely overgrown forest ridge.

Now it's time to climb up a steep path, partly secured with wire ropes, which is surrounded by a romantic rock scenery.

The last 100 meters you walk laboriously over a scree field to the Salzsteigjoch.

South of the Salzsteigjoch, the trail leads on the Styrian side, slightly descending over alpine pastures and through sparse larch forest to the Leisthütte hut.

From the Leisthütte hut, hike further east along trail no.

209 over magnificent alpine pastures to the Interhütten huts.

On the half way there the hiking trail number 277 branches off, which leads to the Almkogel.

300 meters after the Interhütten you descend to the Grimmingbach, which has to be crossed.

Now you walk mostly flat, along the shore and past the hunting lodge Hanslhütte to another turn-off.

From the Türkenkarscharte you descend via the Bärenalm and continue to Schafferreith.

From Schafferreith you hike the hiking trail number 209 to the Bärenalm car park and back down the valley to the starting point at Gasthof Baumschlagerreith.
