The characteristic of this mountain is the diversity of the two sides: the rounded and grassy southern one; rocky and harsh the northern one with the wall that plummets for over 1400 m on the hills of Teramo (Castelli) and the overall slope that enlarge the 2000 m of prominence. The difficulty of the wall is not only in the verticality and in the difference in height, but also in the extremely harsh and wild mountain environment and in the friability of the limestone.
Famous in this area is a summit of the rocky wall known as the Dente del Lupo.
On the same imposing north wall, at an altitude of about 2050 meters, there is a perennial hanging glacio-nevato in a gully, the snowfield of the Fondo della Salsa. From the top, the view stretches on one side over the entire province of Teramo and Pescara and the Adriatic Sea in the distance, from the other towards west you can see Campo Imperatore and other peaks of the Gran Sasso in its southern part, the Corno Grande, the Maiella and the Sirente-Velino.
