Description

Take the Schneefernerkopf lift and start walking/skinning up the steep south-east side of the Schneefernerkopf (2836m).

After about 200 vertical meters you will reach the abandoned top station of the old Neue Welt Lift.

Later in the year, ski crampons might be helpful on the ascent. The first section starts easy and requires the skier to keep slightly left through the big corrie until a mellow ridge.

You will then have to keep right towards the flat ending of the slope.

If it has enough snow, keep hard left right below the rocks until you reach a steep and short little couloir.

Don't ski down too far at the end; the slope drops 400m towards Austria.

The entrance to the rappel is marked by a steel rope on the left side.

Follow the rope and rappel 60m keeping left into the couloir.

Don't go straight down - 60m won't be enough! Ski down the couloir and find your way down to the Ehrwalder Almbahn.

The easiest way is going down the open slopes, stay in the middle and follow the mellow gully until you reach a gravel road.

Take a left and skate until you reach a bigger road, leading right down to the Ehrwalder Almbahn.

Take a cab back or have a second car parked there. Make sure you make it out of the couloir before it gets too warm in the spring!
