Description

Uncompahgre peak tops the list of many climbers favorite 14ers.

Situated in the Uncompahgre National Forest, within the San Juan Mountains, the views are absolutely spectacular.

Their are two ways to reach the trailhead, but the primary recommended way is through Lake City.

Once in Lake City, begin your way up engineers pass, which you will pass a sign for Uncompahgre Trail head on the way.

From here, the road gets pretty rough, only high clearance 4X4 will make it. From the trailhead, it is a gorgeous hike through the vast tundra of the Uncompahgre National Forest.

The next goal is to gain the ridgeline, then traverse a bit and have some fun class 2 scrambling.

After the slight scramble, reach the summit, and soak in views of Wetterhorn, Matterhorn, Sneffels, Handies, Precipice, Coxcomb, Dusdaine, and many more peaks! Enjoy! For Detailed Information: https://www.14ers.com/photos/peakmain.php?peak=Uncompahgre+Peak
