Description

Quincey's Knoll offers some of the freshest powder turns during or after a storm.

It takes a while to get to which dissuades the average skier from making the journey.

However, it isn't a big pitch.

They may be fresh awesome turns, but there are only so many one can squeeze out of this run.

To get to Quincey's Knoll, go left at the top of Empire Express and head for Orion.

Then stay right.

And keep staying right.

follow the boundary rope to the traverse into the Daily Bowl and Chutes.

Follow the path across the top of the ridge, skating or hiking required, get some speed and ski past the crater like entrance to Chute Ten.

Keep right along the boundary rope and pass through a gate past a small rocky knoll on your right.

This is the beginning of the run.

Skiing left leads to trees, X-Files.

Staying right leads to a wide open slope.

Drop in and trend right past shrubs leading to taller evergreens.

At the bottom, you will find a path through the trees following a paved, and usually plowed road.

ski the winding path through the trees which will emerge in Bucky's Back Yard, one of the Ski School adventure zone.

Watch for traffic and continue skiing out to Bandana, a green run which leads from the top of Flagstaff Mountain to Ruby Express, Empire Express, Empire Canyon Lodge, and the Montage, with access to the Lady Morgan area as well.

This area requires a bit of work, maybe ten minutes of traversing, and though short, it can reward skiers with a few very good turns in fresh conditions.

Just don't expect a long fall line.
