Description

This is an increasingly popular ski peak, especially for ski-by-boat groups, and for good reasons - good summit-to-sea skiing, several route options, and fantastic views across the ocean to the Lyngen Alps.

The large tower on top make the peak widely visible from a distance.

The tour starts from the road near the boat dock in Akkarvik.

Through gentle terrain you make your way up the mountain.

Stay right of a convex roll under the powerlines (see last image), then trend left to avoid steeper terrain overhead.

You will most likely see guard rails of the summer route along the way, and snow sticks that help you navigate in poor visibility, especially above 550m.

Below the sticks follow a flatter, longer route than shown here.

The route is easy, but mind the steeper rolls on your right at the lower section, and above 400 m the cornices over the steep east slopes on your right.

There is a little open hut for shelter just a few meters southwest below the summit.

At the summit, below the massive TV tower, watch for hanging ice on the tower! For the descent, you have several options.

Easiest is the same way back - that would result in an "easy" route grading.

More exciting is a more direct variant, shown in the route drawing.

Follow the way you came, but stay left at 520m.

You reach a little plateau, from where a nice slope drops straight towards Akkarvik.

There is a steep bowl with a convex roll-over, which is fun to ski but requires good stability.

You can go around the bowl to the left in safer terrain.

The further descent is straight-forward, but there is that convex roll-over on your right (underneath the power line) near the bottom that gets wind-loaded sometimes and should be avoided.

Another route leads through the east face - the drop-in is at around 650m.

This is serious terrain and requires excellent skiing and snow-assessment skills.
