Fisherman’s Bay is probably the most popular campground on Maligne Lake, because it is located approximately halfway across, at 13 kilometers from the boat dock.

It makes a destination on its own, a base camp for further exploration of the lake, or the first night’s camp on the way to [Coronet Creek](https://fatmap.com/routeid/1956744/Maligne_Lake:_Fisherman's_Bay_to_Coronet_Creek).

Though in high demand, it’s never really crowded because reservations are required.

Be sure to get yours far in advance. Along the way to Fisherman’s Bay are three picnic sites on the lakeshore, where you might care to stop for a break.

The first is Trapper Creek, on the south side of the lake at about 4.3 km from launch.

The next two are on the north side, 4 Mile at 5.4 km and Samson at 10 km.

When paddling across the lake, it’s generally best to pick one side or the other to track near, in order to avoid the ferry boats and to have calmer water.

Which side is calmer, of course, depends on the day’s winds. At about 12 km from launch are the Samson Narrows, the narrowest point of the lake and a particularly scenic spot.

The campground is just beyond.

Once at camp, you’ll find communal picnic tables and fire grates, as well as tent pads and a food locker at your reserved campsite. Spirit Island, the photogenic location where the tour boats go, is about 2 km beyond Fisherman’s Bay.
