Description

This is another run on the Mürren piste map that was formerly classified as a red, but is now marked as a blue.

This new classification is probably more accurate as there are no tough sections now that the bottom part can be negotiated via a flatter route - making this option the best one for beginners or early intermediates. Just before the turn off to the T-Bar at Gimmeln, head under the bridge down a gulley that is generally groomed to around two piste bashers width.

This is where the piste gets its name - which translates as "winter valley." Try to keep your speed up here as there is a brief uphill section when you enter the trees - it saves a bit of legwork.

You then pop out of the trees on to a sunny slope that rolls its way down towards the Schiltgrat lift and the village.

Just before the end is a steep and sometimes icy slope which runs to the lift station, but the great news is that, since 2014/2015, a more gentle route has been regularly pisted, allowing you to skip the toughest part of the run and constant improvements to the snowmaking are helping too. This piste is therefore well worth taking for low intermediates who want to avoid the T-Bar, or those simply wishing to rest their legs by taking the chair!
