Description

Although the Schilthorn takes the accolade of Mürren's most famous run, the Kandahar should perhaps claim this title instead.

It hosted the first ever World Championship ski race, way back in 1931 (it hosted them again in 1935), and still offers a fantastic challenge.

With the recent acquisition of a new winch cat, the Kandahar is now groomed regularly - whereas before big bumps used to be in place all season.

This has made the run somewhat easier, but the steep main face should only still be attempted by advanced skiers.

The run starts by dropping off the right-hand side of the Hindenburg piste, before bearing left down a steep and shady slope (heading right will take you down the Finel).

Follow this until it heads to the right and flattens out.

Once you reach the cable car pylon the main face appears in front of you, with some great off piste lines to be found along the sides.

From here it is a consistently steep blast right down to where the run rejoins the Hindenburg, with its shady aspect resulting in usually excellent snow conditions.

An alternative route can be skied down towards Suppenalp by taking a left when you reach the cable car pylon.

This is rarely pisted so can offer some great bumps or powder turns after fresh snowfall.
