A great cruise through the trees down to the excellent Winteregg Restaurant.

Description

One of Mürren's most popular runs, the Dreistern drops 350 vertical metres via a winding route that offers great variation and some of the best snow in the resort.

It faces north and so preserves the snow fantastically well despite the relatively low altitude and it is the best place to head in snowy weather as much of the run is treelined.

You can get here via the Winteregg high speed quad if you're coming from Lauterbrunnen, or via the Allemendhubel funicular if coming from Mürren itself.

Once at the top of the Maulerhubel head northwards, with the town of Wengen ahead of you in the distance.

The top is open and relatively flat, before a 90 degree right-hand turn brings you to a steeper face.

From the bottom of this there are two variations; turn right down the ski school race piste, or wind down on a slightly less steep slope to the left.

Where these two meet the run steepens again: Watch out here as it can get icy, particularly in the early season when the boggy ground can form sheets of ice on the sides of the piste.

At the bottom of this you'll enter the trees by bearing left (hold a right for a very pretty cruise to the bottom through the trees on a cat track) where the piste really opens up into a wide face that is great for getting your speed up.

Even if you're a beginner the gradient is manageable, but be sure to pick up a little speed as there is a long flat run out to the finish.

Perhaps the run's trump card is the Winteregg Restaurant just over the trainline from the bottom of the lift.

With a perfect sunny location and some fantastic Swiss food (be sure to try the local cheese, produced 50m from the restaurant) it makes for a fantastic lunch stop.
