Description

Of the two runs on the Gimmeln side of the mountain, the red offers the steepest skiing and also the chance to test your mettle on a timed and filmed giant slalom run (titled the 'Ski Movie' on the piste map).

Sadly its sunny location can cause issues with the quality and quantity of the snow on the run, but plans are afoot in the next couple of seasons to install snowmaking on what is one of the resort's favourite runs. From the top of the T-Bar or Schiltgrat chair, bear right and cross the T-Bar track to a fairly steep but short slope that takes you to the left and then the main piste.

The lie of the land is almost perfect for a ski run, with steeper sections interspersed with more gentle slopes, ideal for improving both your short and long turns, whilst giving you some comfort that you are not going to lose control and travel too fast.

After two steeper sections the run levels off and is in fact fenced off to give priority to those completing the timed GS course.

If this isn't your cup of tea then you can veer off to the left and join the blue piste, but trying the timed course at least once is highly recommended.

If you can, give it a go as early in the morning as possible before the ruts begin to build around the gates.

You scan your lift pass at the top and then get filmed and timed down the course, set by professional gate-setters.

Log into the Jungfrau Region website and enter your ski pass number to view your times and also watch yourself in action! Once at the bottom you can either choose to take the T-Bar back up to the top, or head down the Wintertal to return to the Schiltgrat chair.
