Description

If you're keen to escape the crowds, this is the hike for you - the Goldegg an See ski area is quiet in winter and all but deserted in summer, meaning that you can enjoy this hike with virtually guaranteed solitude. The trip begins at the end of a street called "March", just east of the Kathi Alm mountain hut (which is only open during the ski season).

There isn't any parking at the end of the road so you'll need to either bike there or park up slightly further away and hike a little on the road. Enter the woods and hike west on a jeep track through some wonderfully quiet forests.

The hiking is completely non-technical so you can get on with enjoying your surroundings without needing to consider what is underfoot.

The navigation is pretty simple too - just follow our line if there is ever any doubt about which exact route to take (which isn't very often). After traveling for a couple of kilometres swing around to begin heading east and climbing up towards the summit of Buchberg mountain.

The route drawn here doesn't actually go to the summit but as you'll be able to tell from the map, it's a simple enough detour to the top if you want to tag it.

Keep heading east on a good track while gently climbs and passes through some clearings from where you'll get some views of the surrounding hills.

Eventually the track descends and leads to what, in winter, is a piste below the Goldegger Schilifte II cables.

Make a hard left and cruise back down to the start point just above the Kathi Alm.
