Description

This is an easily accessible and easily doable hike close to the town of Jasper and the campgrounds.

It’s a great hike for families or anyone seeking a casual stroll in nature.

It also makes a good fallback plan for a day with poor weather, because it is lower elevation and sheltered in the forest.

Plus, views are of the lakes themselves rather than surrounding mountains that might be obscured.

The area has multiple trails, giving various options for loops.

Mapped here is a short loop that includes good viewpoints of all five lakes. Along the hike, you’ll experience pine forest, marshy areas, and five unique lakes that differ in size, shape, and color.

You’ll likely see waterfowl, perhaps beavers, or–if you’re really lucky–a moose.

Even though it’s close to town and the highway, there may be bears, so be sure to practice proper safety.

The risk is generally lower here than most other places, however, because of the location and its popularity. Sources: https://www.pc.gc.ca/en/pn-np/ab/jasper/activ/activ-experience/sentiers-trails/sud-south https://travelwiththesmile.com/blog/valley-of-the-five-lakes-jasper-national-park/
