Description

This classic local route offers up smooth black dirt singletrack winding through a gorgeous aspen grove on the flanks of Snodgrass Mountain.

Where the trail passes through meadows, gorgeous wildflowers provide a colorful carpet.

The upper reaches of the trail provide beautiful views of Mount Crested Butte, Whetstone Mountain, and the valley below. Thanks to the mellow grade, the Snodgrass Trail is the perfect out-and-back route.

Enjoy the sweet singletrack and deep woods in both directions with an easy climb up, and a mellow hike back down that isn’t too hard on the knees. Snodgrass is a very popular hike due to its ease of access.

You can either quickly drive to the lower trailhead, noted in the map here, or you can take a shuttle bus to the upper trailhead above Crested Butte Mountain Resort.

Either way, you’ll get to enjoy this fabulous trail. A portion of Snodgrass crosses private ranch land and as a result, a seasonal closure begins every year on August 14, according to Travel Crested Butte.

The trail reopens in late spring to public access. While the short season on this trail can be a bit of a downer, when you DO get to hike Snodgrass, it's a real treat! Sources: https://travelcrestedbutte.com/crested-butte-trails-snodgrass-trail/
