Description

The Lauterbrunnen valley is one of the most picturesque locations in the world, with it's towering cliffs and cascading waterfalls.

Looming over the valley are the three famous peaks of the Eiger, Jungfrau and Mönch, but all are hidden from view if you are standing in the valley itself. This trail takes you up from Stechelberg at the end of the valley to Mürren high up above, rewarding you with views of the famous trio.

Starting in the car park in Stechelberg (this is a paid parking and overnight camping is not allowed), cross the bridge and follow the signed trails up towards Gimmelwald.

The route is fairly steep but has incredible views back down the valley. You will emerge in the small town of Gimmelwald, where you'll find a collection of houses, a loyalty shop and some lodges. Continue on up to Mürren where the trail briefly joined the tarmac road before entering the town.

There are cute houses, coffee shops and small stores here but most importantly, incredible views over the opposite side of the valley where you'll see the Eiger, Jungfrau and Mönch! Hike back down the way you came or the alternative option is to get the two lifts to Gimmelwald and then to Stechelberg, costing about 24 CHF.
