Description

There are countless variations to this hike and all of them are scenic, straightforward and fun.

The area around the Penken peak is littered with easy paths so you can simply stroll around enjoying the views.

If you do want a route to follow, our line here will take you to all of the finest sights in the area. Whichever route you take there are countless playgrounds, restaurants, viewpoints, paraglider take off points and tourist attractions.

You can also try your hand at e-motorcrossing, mountain scooter-ing and zorbing at various stages of the hike! Start out by riding the Penkenbahn gondola from downtown Mayrhofen and then carry on further up the smaller Kombibahn gondola too.

This deposits you right next to the Lärchwald Hut and a beautiful lake.

Hike south-west just to the left of a blunt ridge crest, heading for the Penken peak itself.

It's actually possible to get to Penken by riding the Finkenberg gondola from the village of the same name.

From Penken take a detour around a bright blue lake which houses the extraordinary Granatkapelle chapel, and then go back to the Penkenbahn via a path right on the crest of the blunt ridge you passed under earlier.

Upon arriving back at the Lärchwald Hut either get back on the Kombibahn gondola or - as shown here - add a little detour loop and check out some of the kids attractions that the lift company have installed between the Kombibahn and Penkenbahn gondolas. Ride the lifts back to Mayrhofen and enjoy the charming ambience of the town.
