Analysing terrain data
The exposure grade describes the potential consequences of falling or slipping off the path.
Low Exposure: The path is on completely flat land and potential injury is limited to falling over.
Medium Exposure: The trail contains some obstacles such as outcroppings and rock which could cause injury.
High Exposure: Some trail sections have exposed ledges or steep ascents/descents where falling could cause serious injury.
Extreme Exposure: Some trail sections are extremely exposed where falling will almost certainly result in serious injury or death.
This is a classic circuit which leads across a beautiful, high route above treeline and underneath the towering Chamonix ‘Aiguilles’, or needles.
The route climbs to the Refuge Plan de l’Aiguille before traversing to Montenvers, which has a commanding view over the Mer de Glace glacier and the ‘other side’ of the Aiguilles.
It is also possible to use the Aiguille du Midi cable car or Montenvers train to avoid either the ascent or descent. Check out Run the Alps trip options here: https://runthealps.com
