Description

If a full day out high above the Zillertal cruising between a lake and possibly the best tree playground in the World (seriously!) sounds like your thing, then this is the hike for you.

There's a smooth path to guide you between the attractions and each one is worth several hours of your time, so this is less a "hike" than a "play".

Whatever it's called, it will leave you sun tanned/burned and with a smile on your face! Start by riding the 2 parts of the Rosenalmbahn gondola to the top station and then strolling over to the Fichtensee lake.

This was only built recently but it's already established itself as a popular attraction and is home to various swimming pontoons, a shallow pool for small kids and some fun fountains for the older kids to play with.

The lake also has good amenities and there are several places to buy food and drink.

It's possible just to stroll around the lake but the water is so appealing that most visitors also take a dip in it.

The lake is pretty high up so it's not the warmest water you'll ever swim in, but it's far from unbearable either. Once you're done with the lake, head back south towards the Rosenalm Spruce Tree Castle.

The parcity of the English language means that we're not going to describe this but it covers over 5000 square metres, there are 4 walk-in towers, a playground (and separate water and sand play areas), a treetop trail and picnic/barbecue areas too.

Suffice to say that it has to be experienced to be believed! By the time your kids have had enough they'll be adults, so at some stage you'll have to tear them away in order to catch the gondola back down!
