Description

This tour is very popular with classic ski mountaineering terrain, a low angled ascent and great slopes on the way down to Champoluc.

Not recommended for snowboarders except those with a splitboard due to long flat sections.

The Lys glacier remains in view throughout the climb, with the Margherita hut (the highest hut in the Alps at 4,554m) also in view.

Once on the ridge you can see from the Castore all the way to the Breithorn. The tour starts from the top station of the chairlift from Sant'Anna to Bettaforca.

Climb along the right side of the ridge that goes up to the Quintino Sella hut.

After the first short steep section you will reach a small pass (Bettolina Inf.), from here the climb becomes gentle until you reach a flat plateau along the ridge (approximately one hour and 30 minutes climbing).

Start the ski down on the Champoluc side (west).

The slopes are wide, a bit steeper and interspersed with some gullies.

Bear a bit to the right to reach the plain Piani di Verra Sup (2,382m).

Continue near the moraine of the glacier and down to the lower Piani di Verra (2,050m).

At the end of the long flat plain keep to the right side, pass over the bridge to where the track becomes a road into the forest.

A fast descent ends at the village of St.

Jacques right in front of the restaurant Fior di Roccia - perfect for an apres ski beer.
