Description

The loop consisting of Marvin’s to KGB to Phil’s is one of the top-recommended quick loops in the Phil’s trail network.

This short loop only measures 5 miles in length and climbs just 340 vertical feet, making it a flat, attainable trail run, while still providing a high quality singletrack experience. Marvin’s starts off on flowy, smooth, sandy singletrack.

The main trail tread is ultra-mellow as it rolls across the mesa and up the most significant climb on this loop (that’s not saying much). After turning left on KGB, expect to encounter a few more trail obstacles.

KGB gets an intermediate rating on most maps, but most of that intermediate rating is due to one technical, rocky, switchbacked downhill.

This short downhill is short-lived, and then its back to sandy singletrack. Finally, the run finishes on the lower section of Phil’s, the eponymous trail anchoring this popular trail system.

Phil’s is a smooth, sandy singletrack trail that twists and turns down the mesa beneath towering ponderosa trees.

The sandy track is occasionally punctuated by rocks, but the running is easy, allowing you to look around and enjoy the forest. The only significant challenge on this trail is watching out for mountain bikers.

The Phil’s Trail Network is ultra-popular with the two wheel crowd, and the classic Phil’s trail has been designated a one-way downhill-only trail.

But if you go on a weekday, especially early in the morning or late in the evening, traffic can still be quite light, allowing you to enjoy these delightful trails even without an expensive mechanical contraption.
