Description

Situated on a 1949m plateau are the tropic blue coloured waters of Lago di Cancano and Lago di San Giacomo, two reservoir lakes separated by a dam.

Right next to the lakes and watching over the valley below are the Towers of Fraele, two military towers dating back to the Romans.

But you almost don’t need any facts, because the beauty of this area is absolutely phenomenal and so speaks for itself. A ring of 3000er mountains climb directly out of the bright blue lake waters, and everything surrounding them hangs together in peaceful harmony. There is a gravel track running around both lakes, across the dam between the two lakes and many hiking trails branching off the main track.

The route is totally flat, and there are many cafes to stop along the way, making it an enjoyable hike for all ages and abilities.

From Bormio, there is a bus twice daily, and it takes an hour.

This hike begins at the first bus stop at the Lakes of Cancano and finishes at the last.

The cost is around 5 Euros, and there is no need to book in advance.
