Day 3: The first full day in trekking in the huge mountains of the Khumbu is utterly wonderful. Leaving behind Namche Bazaar feels like the moment that you leave civilisation behind and enter the high Himalayan environment.

Description

Leave Namche on a good path which climbs gently out of the village, heading north-east.

The path continues to rise gently as it traverses the spectacular hillside east of Khumjung and leads to the famous tea house at Kyangjuma after a couple of hours walking.

The views of Ama Dablam from here, and from the walk which led to it, have to be seen to be believed.

From Kyangjuma, descend down to the Dudh Kosi river down some steep steps and then make the long, grinding climb to the World famous Tengboche (sometimes spelled Tyangboche) Monastery, which is perched high on a ridge and enjoys 360 degree views of Ama Dablam, Kangtega, Thamserku, Lhotse and the summit pyramid of Everest itself.

The climb takes between one and two hours but if in doubt, take your time and don't tax your body too much.
