Description

The route can be completed in either direction but is most popularly done by starting at the top of the Patscherkofelnbahn cable car and finishing at the Glungezerbahn one man chairlift.

This is the slightly more taxing version because it involves more ascent than descent, but there's not much in it; neither direction is difficult.

Whichever way you do the route, there is a regular bus service between the 2 lifts so the logistics for the day are easy.

It is possible to buy a ticket called the "Zirbenweg Trail Circular Ticket" which includes one lift up, the other one down and the bus in between.

It is valid for either direction and can be bought at the both lift stations. Once on the path there are continually amazing views across the Inn valley, the city of Innsbruck and on to the wild and untamed Karwendel mountains to the north.

There are also some wonderful wild flowers, including the famous zirbens (a type of pine cone) which the route is named after and which are used to create a popular (and strong!) local liqueur.
