Description

Racecourse North is another gem, with similar characteristics to The Racecourse South, yet with a more pronounced gully, almost becoming a bowl.

Starting with a quick drop through a steep rocky area, this opens out into a wide bowl following the drainage pattern (nearly always covered over) providing a wide surface to rip up.

This run mellows slightly and enjoys a consistent fall line down into Lady Northcote Canyon.

Head due east from Townsend and keep skiers left of the knoll separating the entry between the North and South Racecourse gullies, take care through the rocks, and pick your line down to the creek.

Skin the return line as shown on the map for the easiest return back up to Townsend, or boot pack up the gully.

Take care of conditions here as avalanches have been seen to occur fairly often on this side of Townsend, yet it holds the snow relatively well later in the season which I would say is the best time for this one.

Enjoy this absolute cracker when you can.
