Description

Greenland is a long, tight, technical glade that meanders down a steep pitch.

Take the Castlerock Double to Castlerock Peak, look for a hiking trail to skiers left of the lift top.

You should see a trail sign that says “Long Trail South”.

Hike along the ridge for 15-20 minutes until the woods open up enough to be skiable, from here you can sniff out a drop in point.

There isn’t really a concrete entrance, you kinda have to sniff it out as you traverse the ridge.

Greenland will test your tree skiing skills and your backcountry knowledge.

The route begins from the top of Castlerock Peak, as you come off the lift, you should see an entrance to a hiking trail to skiers left.

It has a sign labelled “Long Trail South”, although some years it can be buried.

Hike along the ridge for about 15-20 minutes.

Eventually, the trees will open up enough to be skiable, there are a few drop in points, none of them obvious or ideal.

Once you drop in you will have to negotiate fairly tight glades on a steep slope.

The skiing is slow going but with enough challenge to be exciting.

The lower half is a deciduous forest with more room for turns.

This section is a lot of fun, especially on powder days.

Continue skiing until you pop out on Bailout, depending on where you drop in you may pop out in different places along the trail.

Be warned, this is not the place to try your first unmarked/backcountry glade, it is easy to get lost here.

If you feel uncomfortable or unsure of where you are dropping in, continue along the ridge to The Saddle or The Church or even all the way to the Lincoln Peak trails.
