Description

It is important to stress this route is one of several potential winter routes, and the summer route is very different from this.

This is a challenging skin; budget at least 2.5 hours to reach the top of Taylor Mountain. Start at the Coal Creek parking lot.

Skin several hundred feet up the exit route before branching off into the trees to your left.

Switchback up this face until reaching the south-west ridge of Taylor, approximately 1200 feet above the parking lot.

From here the ascent route is very straightforward: follow it to the summit.

Generally speaking, the climbers left side of the ridge is less exposed should one need space for switchbacks or to avoid cornices while walking the ridge.

At times it is steep, though this route rarely requires more than creativity and determination to reach the summit while keeping the skis on the feet. In big snow years, this route can yield high quality, easy access skiing into May.
