Description

Wiseman's View is one of the most renowned vistas in Linville Gorge.

It's less of a hike and more of a short walk, and it awards spectacular views of Linville Gorge.

Depending on the season, the observation deck offers views of the sunrise and sunset, making it one of the most well-known and photographed spots within the gorge.

Head to any brewery or restaurant in the area and ask a local where their favorite spot is - and they'll likely direct you here. Wiseman's View is only accessible via an unpaved Forest Service Road.

It can be bumpy at times, but shouldn't be a problem for two-wheel drive vehicles.

Higher-clearance vehicles are typically recommended, however.

During the winter, certain gates *may* be closed, so contact the Grandfather Ranger Station at (828) 652-2144 to inquire about the latest road conditions.

If they are open, be mindful that a 4-wheel drive vehicle with traction control is a *must* in the winter.

As such, this route is not listed as the perfect winter hike.

At the parking area, you will find vault toilets and a single trail leading to the main viewing areas.

The upper area is wheelchair accessible, while the lower area facing south requires you to walk down a few stairs. [Source](https://www.romanticasheville.com/wisemans-view)
