Description

Every Sea to Sky resident has dreamed about Mt.

Currie and every visitor has looked up at it's steep north face.

Climbing to the summit is a worthwhile trip, especially if you can travel fast and light in trail running style! The first trick is finding the trailhead.

Head north on Highway 99 from Whistler and turn off at the dirtbike track about halfway between Whistler and Pemberton.

Follow the dirtroad back south through the track and continuing into the forest.

Cross the creek and follow the major track (ignoring spurs) until it's no longer passable.

Depending on your vehicle, you may not get much past the creek and have 15min of extra road to jog. The trail turns uphill off the road at a sign in a cutblock.

from here, you follow the valley briefly before starting uphill steeply.

The trail switchbacks up through the forest gaining elevation rapidly.

Eventually you'll break out into subalpine slopes and work your way through more complex terrain.

There are several excellent camp sites just at tree line.

The track starts traversing south around the sub-summit and moves into open alpine terrain.

This may be snowfields but is likely bigger talus.

It can be a little tricky to follow the route so watch for cairns and a faint footbed.

You'll cross several streams for water here.

The scrambling gets a little more hands on in the big boulders. Cross a final slope to gain the ridge that climbs up towards the summit.

This is the scrambling crux.

Stick to the easiest terrain and be aware of the possibility of knocking rocks on your companions.

The highest peak doesn't actually look down on Pemberton but you still have a stellar view of the valley and Garibaldi Park! Reverse the route to return to the car!
