This 18-mile circuit is one of the best overnight loops from the Deep Creek Campground.
It offers epic views, plenty of waterfalls, plus an abundance of unique trees and rocks! There are plenty of backcountry campsite options, but they must be reserved prior to your trip.
This route is great on its own or an excellent base for a longer route including Indian Creek, or even a trip up to the Appalachian Trail or Clingmans Dome.
This hike is best in the spring or fall, but it's still a year-round option if you're willing to brave the cold during winter.
Seasonal road closures are in effect during the coldest months, so call the NPS at (865) 436-1200 for the most up-to-date road and trail information.
You may get your feet wet at times, so pack appropriate gear depending on the season.
[This recent trail report](https://www.hopeandfeathertravels.com/noland-divide-loop/) also suggests you "always leave for a hike expecting to stay out overnight, just in case you're forced to with an injury, are lost, etc." This is a wise recommendation given the remoteness of this route. Whether you're planning to hike this in one day or looking to spend the night on the trail, [contact the NPS](https://www.nps.gov/grsm/planyourvisit/deep-creek-campground.htm) to discuss options for overnight parking or campsite reservations within the Deep Creek Campground.
Reservations are required at a rate of $25 per night.
