Description

At 2117 metres, the Hundstein mountain is the highest peak in the Salzburg Slate Alps.

This mountain biking tour takes you right to the top, where you can enjoy spectacular views of Lake Zell before tearing your way down the mountain.

Beginning in Saalfelden, head south in the direction of lake Zell.

At Thumersbach, on the eastern shore you break away from the lake and begin to climb steeply up through woodland.

First you will reach the top of Shafkopf (1829m) before following a narrow ridgeline along to the peak of the Hundstein (2117m).

From then on it is a challenging descent with many steep sections, rocks and roots and switchbacks to the foot of the mountain.

The last stretch is an unexciting flat road section taking you through a series of small villages including Rain and Ramseiden, until you reach your starting point in Saalfelden.
