While the Lost Sierras are packed with stunning alpine lakes, if you're looking for a remote lake that requires some serious work to access it (thereby keeping most of the crowds away), consider this 6.1-mile round-trip hike to Jamison Lake.

The Jamison Creek Trail to Jamison Lake begins by ascending a series of massive rock steps.

At points, these big rock ledges can be challenging to ascend for some hikers.

But don’t worry—after the first mile or so of these massive ledges, the trail mellows out (somewhat). The next section of singletrack winds through a lush valley, ducking through deep undergrowth as it passes Grass Lake.

After passing the lake, there’s a little more mellow hiking, and then the trail begins gaining elevation in earnest.

A rocky climb filled with both loose rocks and embedded boulders delivers you to another plateau, where you’ll find both Jamison Lake and Rock Lake.

Upon reaching your destination, you’ll be greeted by an otherworldly alpine setting! The crystal-clear lakes are flanked by soaring granite cliffs on three sides, forming a high-mountain amphitheater that you could stare at for hours! Enjoy a lunch on the shores of the lake, and if you’re feeling hot in the mid-summer sun, jump in for a swim.

Once done at the lakes, retrace your steps back to your car.
