Description

This out and back itinerary is a big day out covering some impressive alpine terrain.

The Col is nearly 3000m above sea level and the last part to the col is close to unrideable.

The rest of the ride however has sections of excellent fast flow and technical parts that require good line choice to stay out of deep ruts.

The Bonatti Refuge is a great place to stop for some food or liquid and there is plenty of water filling options on the first half of the ride up.

The overall ride has a good mixture of steep pedaling, pushing and hike a bike to get to the col.

Not possible to pedal the whole way on an Ebike, carrying would be required.

From the car park head up the steep and loose track through the woods that peters out into a forest path which brings you to the Bonatti Refuge.

From here go up the wide valley passing another small group of buildings.

The track crosses over a river and continues up the basin until eventually you turn left up the steepest part signposted (1).

Some more carrying and pushing leads to the final hanging valley to the col.

The landscape changes but the riding surface stays good.

A short visit to the narrow and impressive col and you are ready to start the descent back to the valley.
