Description

While most of the approaches to Oakridge's most epic viewpoints require many miles of hiking, Larison Rock offers the opportunity for a short one-mile jaunt to a scenic view over the region. You could opt to turn this into a much longer hike by departing directly from the town of Oakridge, but for a quick walk to a rewarding overlook, begin by driving most of the way up a paved backroad to the upper trailhead.

From there, it's a quick half-mile of hiking to reach the top of the rock. The very final 10 feet or so to the top of the rock might require the use of hands to reach the viewpoint, but the moderate scramble is short and not exposed.

Consequently, that portion of the hike hasn't been factored into this difficulty rating. Once on top of the rock, you'll enjoy a stunning panorama of the Cascade Mountains! While the towering pines hem in some parts of the view, you'll still enjoy an epic spectacle that will force you to pause and contemplate life for a time.

Once done, return to your car the way you came.
