Description

This hiking loop is perfect for a one or two night backpacking trip.

The first section will take you across open ridges where you can view the lower elevations toward the south.

From there, you'll descend into the heavier-forested southern area of Dolly Sods, around the peak of Breathed Mountain and Lion's Head, and back towards the north, with a nice area to relax in the river.

You'll then continue north past Blackbird Knob and connect back into the Bear Rocks Trail.

Caution: The eastern section of the Dobbin Grade Trail (east of Red Creek) features over a mile of deep, muddy marshes.

Your shoes WILL get wet, it is impossible to avoid.

It is recommended to hike the trail in the direction outlined here.

Another option would be to take the Raven Ridge Trail north to the Bear Rocks Trail, which will add about one mile.
