Description

Bird Key Bank is a shallow area of sand bars and reefs southwest of Garden Key.

The snorkeling is especially good there, but you’ll need your own boat to reach it.

Prepare to sand anchor or moor to a buoy if you want to explore in the water.

You can even find a 19th shipwreck, called the Bird Key or [Brick Wreck](https://www.nps.gov/articles/birdkey.htm).

You will need to plan ahead to bring your own kayak to Dry Tortugas on the ferry, then check in at park headquarters to receive a permit.

You should also inquire about the day’s conditions and review nautical maps before setting out. Sources: https://www.nps.gov/drto/planyourvisit/paddlesports.htm https://www.visitflorida.com/en-us/things-to-do/outdoors-nature/kayaking-dry-tortugas-national-park-in-key-west.html
