While the [Tall Trees Grove](https://fatmap.com/routeid/2713518/tall-trees-grove/@37.7583201,-119.8003547,3773.6074839,-61.3084981,147.2601071,1885.3831744,normal) might be the best hike in Redwood National Park, that adventure is not for the faint of heart.

While many families will attempt the endeavor, a much easier outing in the redwoods can be found on the nearby Lady Bird Johnson Trail.

This family-friendly loop runs for just 1.4 miles on a mostly-flat, smooth trail.

The redwoods in this grove are certifiably huge, many of which feature carved-out bases that children may enjoy playing in.

The understory is covered with ferns and rhododendrons, "which bloom in May and early June," according to Lana Law on [PlanetWare.com](https://www.planetware.com/california/best-hikes-in-redwood-national-and-state-parks-us-ca-268.htm). The Lady Bird Johnson Grove is located high on a mountainside in the upper reaches of Redwood National Park.

Consequently, "the forest is often shrouded in fog, creating a very serene atmosphere," according to Law.
